Sometimes the stories that are handed down from the times of old are easily dismissed as simple fallacies. They are said to be stories that are simply told by the ancients who didn't possess modern scient to explain why certain things happened. Storms were attributed to the wrath of gods. Being wealthy was considered to be looked upon in a favorable manner by the gods. However, not all things legends that are told by the ancients are euphemisms or metaphors to how things worked. Most of the legends that have been passed down can actually be taken at face value. Such is the saga of the Sigmund and Sinfjotli, from here on out simply referred to as Sig and Sin.
As the story of the Volsunga Saga goes Sig and his son Sin are out on some kind of expedition, trekking through the woods when they come upon spellbound wolf pelts. When put on the pelts have the ability to transform the men into wolves. The put the pelts on, transforming themselves into wolves. They split up, promising to howl if either one of them finds 7 men to fight at one time. Well, Sin doesn't abide by the agreement, which really grids Sig's gears. He ends up wounding and accidentally killing his own son. Odin then sends a messenger raven with a healing leaf. Sin is healed of his fatal wound, bringing him back to life. After this all happens, the father and son duo take the pelts off and burn them in a fire.
Here's the thing. There's something that isn't mentioned in The Volsunga. Not only are the wolf pelts magic, but that magic has been given to the pelts by the gods. The pelts not only allowed the Sig and Sin to be able to transmogrify into wolves, but it gave them a supply of very ancient, Runic magic. This was magic that existed before the runes were officially given to and adopted by mankind. As you know, the runes are a system of very powerful symbols. It is the way that Vikings not only communicated but also created their magic. Each rune had an ancient energy attached to it and when put together with certain other runes could create magic that could be used by the Vikings.
In later times, what amounted to Viking witches were able to manipulate these runes to create magic for those who needed it. However, this gift was given to Sin and Sig the moment they put on the werewolf pelts because the rune magic is innate in the gods. Wolf magic is innate in the gods. The two were combined together. This piece was created during a smelting process using the ashes of the pelts that were burned by Sig and Sin. I don't know if they were retained by the father and son or if somebody else found them and realized what they had stumbled across. All I know is that the ashes for forged into this piece and this piece now holds their magic.
This magic is a very raw, primal, instinctual magic. The magic allows you to leave your body in the astral form where you will be free to frolic in your wolf form on the astral planes. This piece only allows for astral shapeshifting because physical shapeshifting takes a long time to transition into and people get impatient and end up getting hurt. Astral shapeshifting will not hurt you. On top of this ability, you will receive a connection to the Earth, which will bring about the awakening of psychic sense in your mind and body.
