This is a summoning portal box. The magic has been set inside of the box. The box holds a gatekeeper and that is who you see pictured on the outside of it. It is this spirit that is going to go into the spiritual realms to pull through the spirits that you ask for when you are using this piece. All you have to do is take off the lid and place a cone of incense (any scent you desire) inside of the small box. This opens a portal and you will telepathically convey the name of the soul that you want to conjure. This can be any soul that is the soul of a dead person or is a soul that doesn't claim a mortal body such as the soul of Elizabeth Bathory or Rasputin the Monk. The gatekeeper will then go collect your soul and bring it to you.
