In 1573, Gilles Garnier was burned at the stake on crimes of lycanthropy and witchcraft. He had earned the nickname the Werewolf of Dole after several young children had gone missing in the area, found torn and ripped apart in indescribable ways. The riddle was solved when a group of passersby noticed what they described as half-man-half-wolf eating the flesh off of the body of a child. One of them recognized Gilles Garnier who was also known to the locals as the Hermit of St. Bonnot.
When Gilled Garnier was confronted by secular authorities he admitted that he was responsible for the grizzly deaths, but claimed that he was under the influence of supernatural influence. While out in the woods, he claimed, he was approached by spectre. This spectre, claimed Garnier, offered him an ointment. The ointment was for the purpose of acquiring magic, but one side-effect was being transformed into a wolf by night. In this form, Garnier attested to having the most bizarre craving for human flesh. Eating mortal flesh actually allowed him to grow in power.
When it was all said and done, Gilles Garnier was accused of the murder of several young children. He admitted his crimes and was eventually burned at the stake for them. The villagers thought that they had made the world a safer place, but here’s the thing-- the “gift” that was given to Gilles is one that is passed along hereditarily. While in his wolf form he didn’t only become hungry for human flesh, he also became incredibly aroused taking whatever women he came across as his sexual partners. There were plenty of hags around that were more than willing to experiment with a half-man-half-beast, and I literally mean hags as in witches.
He impregnated a few of these witches and they eventually bore Garnier offspring with the Garnier gift-- or curse. I guess it all depends on how you look at it. The point is that Gilles Garnier is often looked at as the first and last of his kind and that simply is not the truth. Also, he killed a lot more people than just children. In fact, he ate people according to the magic that they had in them and the reason for this is because he was able to absorb the magic that they had in them by eating their flesh. So while he had his little quirk for eating children (and by no means was that okay), he also ate a lot of the people at the top. I’m talking about the rich snobs that are part of the Illuminati and run the world. I mean, this was 16th Century France, so there were a bunch of rich, powerful people. It was like a smorgasbord for him.
The bloodline didn’t stop with Gilles Garnier. Not at all. He had male and female offspring. His “gift” gave to both genders indiscriminately. The girls went through heat just as much as the males did and before anybody really knew what was happing these werewolves were popping up everywhere. You’d be hardpressed to find official accounts of them, as many of them weren’t ever caught and the ones that were didn’t confess. Or, the records just disappeared. It depends on the circumstances
One thing about these wolves is that they are lone wolves. They are not pack wolves. They got this from their father who was a hermit. They are obviously all inter-connected on a psychic level because they are part of the same bloodline, but they tend to live by themselves unless they are on the prowl for a meal or sex.
