In Madagascar, people dig up the bones of their loved ones and dance with them. 

Each year, the Malagasy people of Madagascar perform a funeral tradition called Famadihana. The ceremony involves the digging up of the bones of loved ones, dressing them in new clothing, and dancing with them around the tomb to live music. 

The custom is permitted by the Catholic Church because it is not a religious, but rather a cultural custom. 

Adita visited Madagascar during the several day event of Famadihana. She was amazed by the ritual and concerned with the energies that are revealed year after year by these bodies. 

Those who were dead less than a year, still bore some skin and hair. She said it was very disturbing. However, the individuals who were recently deceased were shed of their burial attire and frocked with silk shrouds. 

The jewelry and emblems of remembrance flew off as the dead bodies were swung around the grounds being danced with. 

After the first night of the event, Adita noticed that no one cleaned up the jewels. She waited until it was late at night and snuck back to collect them!
