It is said that there is almost nothing known about Edmund.  He is of Anglican origin and first time he was mentioned was in an annal of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle after his death.  It was said that Edmund was born in 841 as the son of Aethelweard, an obscure East Anglican King, whom Edmund succeeded.  However, his rule was cut short when the Great Heathen Army advanced upon his kingdom, East Anglia.  After refusing to renounce Christ, Edmund was killed on the spot by the invading Viking army.  He was shot with arrows, beaten, and decapitated.  A short time later, Edmund's head was found in the wood, completely alive.  It was then that he began to be exalted as a Saint.

After Edmund's heroic death, a coinage was made that commemorated him and his remains were put on display in the Bury St. Edmunds.  In 1010 his remains were moved to London for safekeeping, but his shrine at the Bury was visited by many kinds and the Bury became rich.  The stone church was rebuilt in 1095 during the middle ages when Edmund was considered Patron Saint of England.  However, during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, his shrine was destroyed.

A small group of mystics wound up with the remnants of St Edmunds shrine, passing down all that the Saint had to offer.  He has made several appearances to his followers since his untimely death, mostly to deliver messages from the other side or to bring them powers.  His cult following has been handed down from generation to generation.  Today, the cult worships in top secrecy for fear that people may try to exploit St Edmunds powers.  This group is the source of the item I am offering.
