Sometimes having special abilities and powers isn't always a good thing. Henrietta already didn't have things going for her. She was a poor and uneducated living in the city of Baltimore, which isn't exactly the safest of cities to have to live in. One of her doctors noticed that she had a weird cellular make up and basically sold her out to the government. Next thing you know, the government is knocking at the door, demanding that you give them specimens. It didn't happen exactly like that, but in a nutshell that is how it must've seemed to Henrietta, who pretty much just went along with everything for her family's sake. She never told anybody about these experiments, because-- off the record-- she was told that if she did there would be dire punishments.
You see Henrietta is what they call a self-healer. It sounds interesting enough, right? Well there's a twist. Self-healers are the hybrid offspring of aliens and humans. These aliens visited the Earth in medieval times, assumed human forms, and took mortal women as their wives. The result were offspring that looked human, but held characteristics of the alien fathers that helped to birth them. Among these powers were the ability to self-heal, meaning any spiritual or physical ailment that came to their body was eradicated upon it's inception to the body.
This alien bloodline was passed down throughout the generations. It doesn't show discrimination to race or creed. The aliens took all kinds of forms when they landed-- white men, black men,chinamen, Native men, etc. Thus, the government has been looking for them fervently, because the powers could be in any type of person from anywhere in the world. They sought to use the auto healing mechanisms in the cells of the hybrids as a means of creating immortality. So far, their efforts have been wildly successful. You can thank Henrietta. It was she that finally provided a breakthrough. Henrietta's cells have been cloned and duplicated. Her cells have been successful in totally curing Polio, Cancer, AIDS, HIV, Heart Disease, Diabetes, etc. Furthermore, they have been able to create a strand of her DNA that provides people with complete, 100% immortality. This DNA not only stops, but reversed the aging process. It's pretty amazing.
As for Henrietta, she inevitably died penniless, without a proper burial, and with absolutely no recognition. In fact, her family was completely left in the dark as to her contributions to the government that pretty much just tossed her aside to die. You see, she never gained the immortality. That was a strain the government developed and couldn't even be bothered to give to her for her troubles. Nope. They kept it for themselves. The thing is, they developed a collection of items that they would give out to certain government officials. It would give them the powers they were looking for. He is alive and well, looking more like he did back in his movie star days. Eisenhower? He isn't dead either. He's alive and well, working at a Space Embassy in another dimension.
