when you think of the Sphinx, you are likely to think of the ancient Egyptian version. However, there are other cultures that recorded the presence of the Sphinx as well. While the Sphinx was somewhat of a guardian in ancient Egypt and watched over the pyramids, in the ancient Greek culture they were more or less harbingers of trouble and some sort of chaos.
This piece holds the presence of Hera's Sphinx. This is the Sphinx that Hera sent specifically to terrorize the City of Thebes. Hera was a goddess that was seeking retribution for the iniquity of the people with the city, specifically their king. There was only one way in and out of the city. Beside the city gates, there was a hill where the Sphinx sat.
when people would enter or leave the city, the sphinx would ask them a riddle. Those who couldn't answer it were immediately killed, eaten by the Sphinx. The bones scattered the road at the spot where the Sphinx was perched until one day Oedipus, who was fleeing Corinth, finally was able to solve the riddle. The Sphinx lept to its death. People think that this is where the story of the Sphinx ends. Au contrare!
The spirit that was in the body of the Sphinx ascended into other realms of existence-- it voracious appetite being fully awakened. It began feasting on anything that it could eat to gain sustenance-- souls, magic, energies, whatever there was. This was until he ate so much that he started regurgitating its knowledge back into the universe. These regulations often bred new types of magic that combined two different types of magic and made a third. Sometimes he just regurgitates what was eaten. Either way, the magic was recycled and regiven to the universe.
This piece allows you to all upon the ancient cat-- with the head of a man and wings of an angel-- for his help in creating magic. This is the real riddle of the sphinx-- what type of magic will he be carrying when you see him. He is very powerful and has pretty much grown to the point where he is all-knowing. He knows where the powerful magic "hangs out" because he has experience in finding it. He is fueled by these energies, so he has no problem finding them you.
When you wear this piece you will become what we call the Sphinx master because full control of the Sphinx's soul will be remitted to you. You will control his every move. He specializes in "sniffing" out the powers and abilities that you want. He will find them, eat them, and then regurgitated them in a form that will make sense to your mortal body. He will grant you the power that you asked for. You can also use this piece to experiment with the creation of new powers/magic or combination powers/magic.
Tell the Sphinx to collect more than one type of power and he will regurgitate the powers in a combo magic form, or in the form of another magic entirely. He can also create the magic that you want by combining two or more magics from the universe. This piece is a culmination fo power and it an excellent piece to have regardless of who you. The minimum that you have to do is instruct the ancient Grecian Sphinx as to what kind of magic you want. He either has the magic, he will find the magic, or he will create the magic. He will then give it to you via this piece that corresponds to his presence!
