We haven't had a good siren piece for a while, so here it goes. This piece comes from a Siren that lives in the Mediterranean Sea. She often comes ashore during mating season for one reason and one reason only. She seduces men so that way she can become impregnated and keep her race alive. Unlike women, it only takes three months for sirens to gestate so it's nothing for a siren to have three babies in a year. They are fairly independent and just slide right of their mother when they're done baking and go on to do their own thing.
You might wonder why the siren comes ashore for her mating? Well, it's hard out there for a siren these days. There aren't as many unwitting sailors to lure to their unwitting deaths, so they have to come ashore and find their victims, so they've adapted into being able to take the form of gorgeous women.
At any rate, this barrette belonged to her. It is made out of abalone, which I guess is appropriate considering she has come to form the sea.
